About me

I started keeping a sketchbook in high school, which was a requirement for the art class I was taking at the time. I had never used or worked with a sketchbook before, and loved it. I have kept a sketchbook practice since 1996. This sketchbook practice has grown and become an integral part of my visual art journey. Drawing and painting are so important to me, as they allow me to communicate without words.

My work with watercolor deepens my connection to the subject I am focusing on. Watercolor is a medium that requires complete control and complete surrender. I choose to work with watercolor for this reason. This medium involves patience as each layer dries, and as it dries, it becomes part of the story.

I recently finished a painting for a dear friend whose dog had passed away through the night.  Although I did not know her pet, I examined the reference photos and tried to capture the personality within the layers of paint, bringing the painting to life.

Artist Statement

Watercolor breathes life into my soul, the way the paint travels across the paper with the stroke of a brush can be so peaceful, and calming. My work is a collection of simple and complex brushstrokes that take the eye to new and sometimes familiar places, and at the end of the journey, a sense of calm.
